PRODUCTION ENSEMBLES

Shows are not cast until November – students can still join after casting for ensemble roles. Our programs are developed on a once a week format so our students can participate without conflicting with their ever-busy schedules. The students attend rehearsals/classes in each area of study: MUSIC, DANCE and ACTING. Casting begins in late October when our production staff has the chance to see the students’ capabilities.

SHOW: Willy Wonka - Ages 9 – 12 - Mondays 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” which features the songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.”

The show is used as a vehicle to teach techniques that include more intense styles and concepts that the age group finds intriguing and challenging. They include the following: characters and their connection to emotions, needs and relationships, and how singing has an emotional connection to the character. Strong vocal projection and diction are emphasized. Techniques to develop abilities and understandings in dance are also emphasized. The students are cast in lead, supporting and ensemble roles, and then rotate to classes in ACTING, DANCE and MUSIC. Their strongest achievement will be their performance in a full-scale Broadway style show at the end of the season. Snack time is a social event so bring a delicious treat.

SHOW: Zombie Prom - Ages 12 – 17 - Tuesdays 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

It’s Grease meets Little Shop of Horrors with this girl loves ghoul rock and roll musical. The story is set in the atomic 1950s at Enrico Fermi High, where a zany, tyrannical principal lays down the law. Pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy. Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he charges off on his motorcycle to the nuclear waste dump. He returns glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee's heart. He still wants to graduate, but most of all he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead while a scandal reporter seizes on him as the freak du jour. History comes to his rescue while a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of 50s hits keeps the action rocking across the stage

Techniques taught are a combination of traditional and innovative theatre. A strong emphasis is placed on character research and development, vocal training, dance techniques as used in musical theatre, and an overall enthusiastic approach to theatre study. Everyone gets a role as a lead, supporting and ensemble member, which is a reflection of each individual, to help develop his/her own style. The season’ s production is achieved through invigorating work and strong dedication.
